Details on the upcoming Ralph show at Thundering Word Heard.
Feb. 2nd, 2002
A special poetical and jazzical journey through the heart of *LOVE* with RALPH ALFONSO and his friends Jane Milliken on keyboards and Graham Howell on saxophone.
Love found. Love lost. Montreal, Manhattan, Vancouver, San Francisco, Ralph Alfonso presents a unique jazz monologue with words and music,a kind of jazz play, if you will, featuring material from his new book and cd, "This Is For The Night People".
Amidst the blanket of fresh fallen snow, in the cozy warm arms of a wonderful cafe, come and dream about love. What it was. What it could be.
This is Ralph's ONLY Vancouver appearance until April, when he begins a cross-country acoustic tour with Tom Wilson and Paul Hyde.
RALPH is RALPH ALFONSO, Vancouver (by way of Montreal and Toronto) poet/graphic designer who has hovered under the pop culture radar screen since the late 60's.
RALPH the musical group begun as an extension of the RALPH zine, a labor of love created by Ralph Alfonso. Issues 25-50 are collected together in a book , THIS IS FOR THE NIGHT PEOPLE, its vintage duotones hearkening to the beat esthetic that inspired it.
In 1992 Ralph started publishing the monthly zine (RALPH: Coffee, Jazz and Poetry) as part of a healing process and a way to rejuvenate his creativity. It has been a regular feature in magazine and bookshops across the country since then. Try to find any self respecting beat poetry lover who hasn't heard RALPH'S name...impossible!
Ralph's television appearances include the Vicky Gabereau Show, MUCH MUSIC, BRAVO TELEVISION, where the RALPH Band's video "GOODBYE, JACK KEROUAC" is in constant rotation. The band's CD has topped indie radio charts accross Canada and the U.K.
