KEVIN KANE - HOW TO BUILD A LIGHTHOUSE - WEST COAST SOLO TOUR W/ LEEROY STAGGER

Kevin Kane's songs, voice, and guitar playing are very familiar to any Canadian to have turned on a radio or TV between the mid-80s and early 90s, for at the time, his band The Grapes of Wrath rode a wave of hit singles, videos, albums and sold out concerts from coast to coast.

Since the original group disbanded in 1992, Kevin has released 2 solo acoustic albums - neighbourhood watch- and Timmy Loved Judas Priest (available on iTunes via Bongo Beat) and has also developed a strong reputation as a producer, working with artists like Zumpano, The Salteens, Star Collector, The Capitals, Superconductor.

"How To Build a Lighthouse" is Kevin's first full-band recording since the Grapes Of Wrath days and finds him joined by Nelson Bragg (Mockers, Brian Wilson Band) on drums, Stefan Bienz on upright and longhorn bass, and Christina Zaenker's layered cellos and vocals. It is Kevin's most varied and dynamic collection of music and was produced by Kevin, mixed by Steven Drake (The Odds, The Tragically Hip, 54-40), and mastered by Kramer (Low, Galaxy 500).

The reviews have been ecstatic:

"British Columbian Kevin Kane knows a thing or four about how to construct a melody that sticks to the brain like bugglegum to pavement. His former band, Grapes of Wrath, released four classy power pop albums between 1985-1991, each a humdinger imbued with the twin spirits of punk's DIY aesthetic and pop music's tendency to extol the ecstasies of girls, love and sex. Following a couple of solo records, Kane is back with a band, and the results are a total joy to behold. Power pop in recent years has received scant attention (let's face it, there are only so many ways you can reconfigure Beatles tunes) but this is really something else altogether. This is pop - elegant, suave, subtle and quite freakin' fab" The Irish Times ****

Since his Bongo Beat release, Kevin has since only played a handful of shows (most recently in the UK for the Intl Pop Overthrow Festival) but we are now pleased to announce that he will be embarking on an 11 day Western Canada tour. Nine of those days will be as a hired gun playing lead guitar in Leeroy Stagger's band, and Kevin opening the evening with a solo acoustic set. There are also two festival shows (details below). And not to sound nostalgic, but we've heard there might even be a grape nut or two in the mix.
