*Cover songs
  • debut cd for singer/guitarist/bass player/songwriter Lauren Agnelli, one of the key figures of the NY music scene
  • nominated for a Grammy as part of The Washington Squares, the 80s beat folksters who spearheaded the first wave of the acoustic revival; cd is stickered with consumer info
  • lead singer on the Brave Combo lp, Kiss Of Fire, an acclaimed collection of torch songs that made the Japanese charts
  • For many years, Lauren wrote for The Village Voice, Creem (during it's golden era) as legendary rock writer Trixie A. Balm
  • CD is a brilliant mixture of standards/originals, Lauren's wonderful rich voice at once conjuring up Francoise Hardy, Astrud Gilberto, Nico and even Marianne Faithfull while a team of NYC jazz musicians and Toronto Symphony Woodwind Quartet are guided by pop producers Glenn Marshall & Dave Rave (both ex-Daniel Lanois associates)
  • "..a modern day Julie London..." VILLAGE VOICE

"Be good to yourself. Pour yourself a glass of good wine. It has to be good to equal the pleasure you are about to experience with the blue sky clarity of Lauren Agnelli's voice. Her way with a song is the way of someone who's been there, someone with a heart that's 'done it all before.' Listen to her September Song and tell me if you've heard a better rendition since Walter Huston did it a long, long time ago."

- Frank McCourt, 22 July '04, author of Angela's Ashes, 'Tis
"... She's been a new waver, a boho poetess, a folk-rocker and now a cabaret singer: Lauren Agnelli puts across dreamy ballads like a modern-day Julie London."
- Holly George-Warren, Village Voice

"... a voice that can pull off Piaf ... capable of projecting both grown-up strength and little-girl vulnerability."
- Dawn Eden, Off-Off Broadway.com

Lauren Agnelli is surely a Renaissance Woman of music. In the 70's, she was a writer for the legendary Creem magazine under the alias Trixie A. Balm. As a freelancer, she wrote the early bio/press release for Patti Smith. As a musician, she was part of the CBGB's 1977 nerve-center with her band Nervus Rex (debut lp with Blondie/Pat Benatar producer Mike Chapman). In 1983, she forms neo-beatnik folksters The Washington Squares (nominated for a Grammy award), who spearhead the folk revival with two albums and a non-stop international touring schedule, performing with such legendary figures as Allen Ginsberg. In the 90's, the duo of Agnelli & Rave rack up rave reviews with ex-Television drummer Billy Ficca touring and recording in Russia for Melodiya Records. Lauren's lp of torch songs, Kiss Of Fire, with Brave Combo makes the Japanese Hot 100 chart. Whew! These days, Lauren is an after hours chanteuse in chic Manhattan clubs; sultry vocals sugar coating the bitter pills of sad lonely standards with an innocence and faith that things will be better.

CD features Doug Miller, flute (Count Basie, Lena Horne, etc), Matt Ray, piano (Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Lovano), with arrangements by NYC guitarist Mark McCarron (RENT, etc). Songs co-written with Michael Mazzarella (Rooks) and Dave Rave that sometimes veer to the baroque of The Left Banke with Nico and jazz trio in tow!

This is a smart album of adult cabaret confection. Lauren Agnelli is the Greta Keller for the CBGB's generation.
